WiredTiger’s principals, Keith Bostic and Michael Cahill, have over 30 years of core database engineering experience between them.

Keith Bostic

Keith Bostic is a founder and architect at WiredTiger. Mr. Bostic was
one of the architects and original developers of Berkeley DB, the most
widely-used embedded data management software in the world. Mr. Bostic
was also a founder of Sleepycat Software, acquired by Oracle Corp in 2006.

Mr. Bostic was one of architects of the University of California, Berkeley,
2.10BSD and 4BSD releases. Mr. Bostic was the recipient of a USENIX
Association Lifetime Achievement Award (The Flame), which recognizes
singular contributions to the UNIX community, and a Distinguished

making the 4BSD release Open Source Software.

Michael Cahill

Dr. Michael Cahill is a founder and architect at WiredTiger. Dr. Cahill
was a senior developer and architect of Berkeley DB at Sleepycat Software,
including responsibility for the design and implementation of multiversion
concurrency control (MVCC), as well as SQL interfaces, programming
language APIs and porting interfaces.

Dr. Cahill’s PhD is from the University of Sydney in the area of transaction
processing and concurrency control. His work on a new algorithm for
implementing serializable isolation received an ACM SIGMOD Best Paper
award and CORE Australasian Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation prize.

Prior to Sleepycat Software, Dr. Cahill was the Chief Technology Officer
at Bullant Technology. During his three year tenure, Bullant grew tenfold
in size and raised over US$30 million in funding from investors including
